Three Cheers for Chardonel

Newburgh 2014 Dry White Chardonel Bronze 2Our 2010 vintage of Chardonel took home this awesome Bronze medal for Dry White Wine during People’s Choice awards at the Newburgh Wine, Art & Jazz Festival on Saturday, May 17.  Hip, hip, hooray!!!  Stop by the winery today and try a complimentary sample of this crisp white wine.  It pairs perfectly with Havarti cheese or seafood.

Can’t make it to the winery?  Visit us at one of the upcoming festivals we are participating in such as Southern Indiana Uncorked (May 24th in Corydon, IN), Jane’s Saddlebags (May 31 & June 1 in Union, KY) and Vintage Indiana (June 7th in Indianapolis, IN).

Sip a little wine and learn about tending to the Grape

The grape is good.  The grape is all.  Long live the grape.

Cruise around the Uplands Wine Trail this Mother’s Day weekend and learn about how to prune a grapevine, the importance of filtration, the history of wine in Indiana,  and a variety of other aspects that go into making a great wine.   At Best Vineyards you’ll take a trip to the vineyard and learn about when and how to prune your vines.  See first hand how this frigid winter affected our vines and how we hope to overcome the setbacks.  We will also be offering a small selection of cheeses and suggest what wine to pair with it.  For a complete list of topics that will be discussed this weekend, go to http://www.indianauplands.com/events/ for more details.

And, Best Vineyards will be making a return this Saturday to the New Albany Farmers Market from 8-1pm.  The Market is located at the corner of Bank and Market and will run every Saturday thru the end of October.  Be sure to stop in for a bottle of our Bread Dipping Spice mix or for a bottle of your favorite wine.

And the winner is . . . .

2014-ShirtArt_3The entries were gathered, the designs reviewed and an overall winner was chosen after much debate.  Congratulations go out to Dustin H. of New Albany for submitting the winning design during our 2014 T-shirt design contest.  Dustin will receive a $75 cash prize plus 2 t-shirts for his artistic efforts.  These gorgeous t-shirts will go on sale June 7th at the Vintage Indiana wine festival in Indianapolis.  We’ll be posting photos of the actual screen printed shirts once they are available.

UPDATE:  Art work has been approved.  T-shirt colors have been selected and everything has gone to the screen printer.   It won’t be long now.

Shokolad Lover’s Weekend – Feb 8 & 9 and Feb 15 & 16

It’s time once again for that favorite wine trail event, Chocolate Lover’s Weekend.  This year to spruce things up a bit, the Indiana Uplands Wine Trail has decided to incorporate a little Olympics trivia in honor of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.   See the IUWT poster below for details on the medals we’ll be awarding.  Will you take home the gold?

As any baker or chocolatire knows chocolate comes in many shapes, sizes, and colors.  White chocolate.   Milk Chocolate.  Dark Chocolate.  Unsweetened.  Bittersweet.  Semi-sweet.  German.  Belgian.  Mexican.  Confectionery coatings.  Blocks.  Caps.  Shaved.  Chopped.  Powdered.  Even the hollow bunny.  The list goes on and on.  Visit us during this yummy event and try our intense chocolate waffles with whipped cream and our wine syrup (Bluebird & Strawberry Flame reductions).  Or indulge with a flourless brownie that’s  gluten-free.  Some strange combinations but definitely worthy of this special event.  See our recipe tab for our 2014 delectable offerings.  And on Sunday, Feb. 9th, our guests will also have the opportunity to listen to the music of Dalton Cartwright, winner of our 2012 talent contest.iuwt chocolate lovers 2014 Poster

Nouveau weekend has arrived!

Need a unique holiday gift for someone special or a Nouveau 2013great story to tell at the Thanksgiving Day dinner table this year?  Why not tell your guests about your own bottling experience at Best Vineyards during our Nouveau weekend, November 21 thru 24.  (It also makes for a great photo op.)  In keeping with the fifty year tradition in France, customers purchasing a bottle of the 2013 Nouveau wine this weekend will get the opportunity to rinse, fill, cork and label their own bottle of wine.  This wine was produced in the traditional style of the French Beaujolais Nouveau’s but with a Hoosier twist.  Chambourcin and NY Muscat clusters are fermented in a process called carbonic maceration which have produced a very young, fruit forward wine that will pair well with next week’s turkey.
